Phylogeny and age of cockroaches: a reanalysis of mitogenomes with selective fossil calibrations

In spite of big data and new techniques, the phylogeny timing cockroaches remain in dispute. Apart from sequencing more species, an alternative way to improve phylogenetic inference time estimation is quality data, calibrations analytical procedure. This study emphasizes completeness reliability genes (judged via alignment ambiguity substitution saturation), justification for fossil calibrations. Based on published mitochondrial genomes, Bayesian termites recovered as: Corydiinae + (((Cryptocercidae Isoptera) ((Anaplectidae Lamproblattidae) (Tryonicidae Blattidae))) (Pseudophyllodromiinae (Ectobiinae (Blattellinae Blaberidae)))). With two calibrations, namely, Valditermes brenanae Piniblattella yixianensis , this dates crown Dictyoptera early Jurassic, Blattodea middle Jurassic. Using ambiguous ‘roachoid’ fossils calibrate Dictyoptera+sister pushes these times back Permian Triassic. also shows that appropriate are rarer than considered previous studies.
